€DF is a small consulting firm owned and operated by Mr. Bert van Manen. Mr van Manen is an international finance consultant and trainer, focussing on development and financing of private enterprises and agriculture in emerging and developing countries.
In more than twenty-five years of consulting, the central thread through Mr. van Manen's work has been private sector financing including SMEs, microfinance and agriculture. Thus, following a participatory approach, Mr. van Manen helps entrepreneurs formulate their business plans. He works with banks and MFIs to assess their clients’ creditworthiness and manage risk. He advises governments on private sector financing. He is training entrepreneurs, consultants and bankers in investment, loan and risk analysis. Mr. van Manen also undertakes monitoring and evaluation following results-based management methods. Recently, Mr. van Manen has undertaken comparative and policy studies into SME and agricultural financing.
Having started his professional career in international investment banking, Mr. van Manen combines financial expertise with knowledge of business support services for the private sector in emerging markets. He is analytical and conceptual, yet highly practical in his recommendations.
Some career highlights are the following:
Completed over twenty-five programme and project evaluations, reviews and monitoring assignments (most often as team leader), as well as countless project formulations in SME development and financing, including agribusiness.
Undertook policy studies in SME and agricultural finance, mainly on behalf of international development organisations.
Offered direct assistance to bankers, SME proprietors and SME consultants in enterprise and rural finance, financial analysis, strategy and business planning (about 75 business/ strategy/ restructuring plans prepared).
Trained bankers, SME proprietors and SME consultants in these subjects and prepared more than 100 training manuals and case studies.
